Over 50's Programs
Living Stronger with Aquafit!
Living Stronger is a safe and quality controlled strength training program specifically designed for people over 50 to build muscle mass and increase bone density as well as improve strength, balance, gait, flexibility and coordination.
Before taking part in the program, each participant is assessed and a program is tailored to their specific needs. Participants then take part in regular group training sessions, making it a great opportunity to socialise and get fit.
How do I know if this program will help me?
If you answered yes to any of the above, this program can help you.
When are the programs held?
Living Stronger provides supervised strength training activities, using a combination of free weights and weight machines. Before taking part in the program, each participant is assessed and a program is tailored to their specific needs. Participants then take part in regular group training sessions, making it a great opportunity to socialise and get fit.
Sessions are held throughout the year - please contact Aquafit Reception on 46 297 297 or enquire through our online enquiry form.
During 2007, well into retirement, I noted that gradually I was losing my muscle strength, not being able to open jars etc, without mechanical aids, and felt it was time to do something about it.
The local paper was advertising the Aquafit Program for seniors which seemed just what I needed. I obtained the application form, got the clearance from my G.P., had the assessment and started the Tuesday/ Thursday 8.15am sessions in October 2007.
It felt quite strange at first, but I was immediately put at ease by a caring and most efficient instructor Kathy, and quickly became a part of a great group of ladies and men, enjoying their fellowship and working through our individual programs. Not only can I open jars without assistance now, my golf game has improved and I hit the ball much further and (mostly) a lot straighter than I ever did. I just need help with putting now!!
I felt privileged to be part of the Club’s team raising funds for the 24hr Walk Against Cancer and continuing in the annual Campbelltown City Council’s Mt Annan Challenge Walk, proudly sporting the Aquafit colours.
Thank you Aquafit for conducting the Program. I really enjoy it and hope to be part of it for some years to come…
My name is Iris Dale, I have been participating in the program at Aquafit since February 2009.
Prior to joining I had been my mother’s carer for nine years, in doing so I had not had much opportunity to look after myself; consequently I had a few age related problems to cope with plus Fibro myalgia which produces widespread pain, in the muscles, ligaments and tendons – the soft tissue of the body.
For me to walk to the local shopping area caused me great pain and I always walked home in tears!! My social life was nil because just standing for short intervals such as five minutes was extremely taxing and painful. I was advised to exercise in short intervals - if I did not exercise I eventually could end up in a wheel chair.
Moderate intensity exercise activates a powerful pain-relieving system in healthy people, but it makes the pain of Fibro myalgia worse.
Lucky for me I read about the program at Aquafit and thought I would give it a go, I used to watch the young folk on the large apparatus going like crazy, and wishing it was me, wondering if they realised how much pain I was in doing my little program.
I’m not out of the woods yet but I can now walk to the local shops and back without the tears! I feel more like 21 than my nearly 81 years, and yes, I am back socialising!
My advice, don’t give up, just keep on trying until you get some results, no matter how small the improvement.
My thanks to the friendly staff at Aquafit for their support and encouragement.
